Comment:
Palisot de Beauvois (p. 177) treated Saccharum koenigii Retz. as a synonym of Imperata cylindrica, and (p. 165) questionably accepts ?I. koenigii? Pers.? Persoon accepted S. koenigii Retz. for a species he placed in Saccharum [unranked] Imperata. "Imperata koenigii (Retz.) P. Beauv." does not exist, since a Retzius basionym was explicitly placed elsewhere by Palisot de Beauvois. The new name I. koenigii P. Beauv., validated by indirect reference to the diagnosis of S. koenigii sensu Pers. (non Retz.), does exist. Applying Art. 46.4, since Persoon?s presumed misapplication of Retzius?s name was not itself validly published, his name is not cited in the authorship. As viewed by Palisot de Beauvois, S. koenigii sensu Pers. cannot be an isonym of S. koenigii Retz., since it was not considered homotypic.
